Got Maskne? We’ve got you covered!

  • Anat Edwy

'Maskne' is a new condition of mechanical acne caused by wearing face masks.

The friction caused by the mask combined with chemicals in the surgical masks, humidity and trapped heat on the non-ventilated area can weaken the skin barrier and promote bacterial and yeast growth. In addition, it may create a type of burn and irritation on your skin. For some people with sensitive skin, it may cause outbreaks of acne, rosacea flare-ups and perioral dermatitis.

There are a few ways to prevent 'Maskne':

  •  First, keep your mask clean.
  •  If you use disposable masks, make sure you replace them regularly and keep them in a sanitary environment.
  • If you use cloth masks, make sure you wash them daily to prevent bacteria and oil build-up within the cloth.

More things to consider are that wearing makeup while wearing a mask can cause further irritation and, therefore, more unwanted 'Maskne'.

But if you want to control your skin, don't worry; we have an excellent solution for you; our 'Shell Be Right' balm!

Like all our products, our 'She'll Be Right' balm is natural, safe and super effective. In addition, it contains many ingredients with remarkable healing properties:

  6. Moisturise and rejuvenate your skin.

How to use the balm-

Massage the balm on a clean face before using the mask. Then, use it as many times as needed. Your skin will thank you.

And here's what Michelle says about her experience with rosacea flare-ups because of mask use.

" My skin was always sensitive to changes in weather, and I had rosacea flare-ups from time to time, especially when I was anxious or after eating junk food.
But the mask caused such a horrible reaction to my skin I was embarrassed to take it off. The skin was blotchy, red, and so sensitive I was in tears every time I looked in the mirror.
I contacted Anat, and she recommended using the balm. I have been using it daily ever since, and my skin feels moisturised and looks and feels healthy".
