Why we would never ever put any wax in our deodorants!

  • Anat Edwy

We all know the reason for ditching commercial deodorants and antiperspirants is the multiple undesirable chemicals they contain, like parabens, phthalates, triclosan, and of course, aluminium. All of them are linked to various ailments such as cancers, cognitive disorders, allergies and skin irritation.

That's why many people who choose to live a healthier lifestyle are switching to natural and safe deodorants to minimalist toxic loads and detox their bodies from toxins that accumulate in them.

But, there's one natural ingredient that is used in most natural deodorants that may stop you from getting rid of the chemicals that linger in your body.

That ingredient is wax! Whether it's beeswax or plant-derived wax, it's the completely wrong ingredient to add to a deodorant.

Why? Because of its function.

Wax is being used in natural skincare as a barrier and moisture retainer. This is because it has the natural ability to create a type of seal on your skin for an extended period of time. But this ability is not needed in natural deodorants, as a deodorant doesn't need to reduce moisture loss or seal your skin.

Simply put - It's a deodorant, not a lip balm.

Deodorants have a straightforward function: control odour efficiently and effectively.

That can be achieved, as well as maintaining your skin health, with a wax-free natural deodorant.

The simple truth is that wax is primarily used as a binder of ingredients to allow a smooth, flawless texture and to shape the deodorants into push-up tubes, for example.

But, there is a problem. Wax (any wax) is super efficient. It keeps your sweat close to your skin, and toxins that are usually extracted from your pits (as you sweat) are left stuck longer in your body and lymph nodes and linger on the skin surface without the ability to be appropriately detoxified. Therefore some people may complain of skin irritation, tenderness and swollen lymph glands, not knowing what the cause for that is.

And that's why - we never have and never will put any wax in our deodorants!

So check your natural deodorant ingredients, see for yourself if it really is good for you, and make an educated decision.
