Survival Balm | Multi-Purpose Balm

This is the ultimate all-purpose balm for all skin requirements and emergencies.

It is specifically formulated for active outdoor lovers and the whole family.

Use this product for mild burns, grazes, cuts, chafing, itching, swelling and dry skin; an insect repellent; for insect bites, it is a mild sunscreen (physical sunscreen)*, and even a deodorant.

*Does not replace sunscreen.

 

Sun protection

Survival Balm contains non-nano zinc oxide, a physical (mineral) UV filter. Physical filters work by sitting on the skin's surface and reflecting UV rays, rather than absorbing them the way chemical sunscreen filters do.

It's also enriched with karanja oil, which naturally contains flavonoids (pongamol and karanjin) known to absorb a portion of UV rays, adding a complementary layer of natural sun protection alongside the zinc oxide.

Together, these ingredients give Survival Balm mild, natural sun protection as a bonus benefit alongside its other uses. It has been used successfully as a sunscreen worldwide but hasn’t been tested or certified under the New Zealand standard (AS/NZS 2604).

Key ingredients

Shea Butter: A rich, nourishing butter traditionally used to support and soothe stressed or irritated skin.

Karanja Oil Rich in omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, karanja oil helps reinforce the skin's natural moisture barrier and ease the tightness that comes with dry or compromised skin. It also contains natural flavonoids that offer antioxidant and UV-absorbing properties, along with antibacterial qualities that suit blemish-prone skin.

Tamanu Oil: A cold-pressed nut oil from the seeds of the tropical Calophyllum inophyllum tree, valued for its moisturising and soothing properties. Tamanu oil is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, helps calm redness and irritation, and supports the skin's natural barrier without feeling heavy or greasy.

Non-Nano Zinc Oxide: Valued for its skin-protective properties, including the mild physical sun protection described above.

Propolis: A traditional bee product valued for its antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Propolis helps soothe redness and irritation, supports the skin's natural repair process, and helps the skin hold onto moisture.

Calendula & Beeswax: Calendula is a gentle, soothing botanical, while beeswax helps form a protective barrier on the skin.

Does Survival Balm work as a sunscreen?

Yes - we have trialled Survival Balm across many countries, and it has been used successfully as everyday sun protection. It contains non-nano zinc oxide for physical UV protection, plus karanja oil, which naturally absorbs UV rays. Reapply regularly throughout the day (not yet tested and certified to the New Zealand sunscreen standard, AS/NZS 2604).
